Why aerospace tooling is different

Aerospace work adds two things on top of tight tolerances. The first is repeatability: a replacement pin has to reproduce the original dimensions so it matches the qualified tool. The second is sourcing, since many aerospace and defense programs prefer or require US manufacturing, which makes a domestic, made-to-print source easier to work with than an offshore one.

Underneath both is the same engineering reality as any precision mold: the fit between a pin and its hole lives in tenths, and tenths are held by precision grinding. We grind pins to consistent diameter and straightness across a production set.
